'Secret characters' from X-Men: Days of Future Past revealed

Film site lifts the lid on characters and plot plans... spoilers ahoy!

Though director Bryan Singer has played fast and loose with Twitter while filming his X-Men sequel 'X-Men: Days of Future Past', he's been careful to remain cryptic where necessary.

Now, however, it seems that his best laid plans have been scuppered with a leak from film site Vulture over both the plot and some of the so-far unannounced characters set to feature.

Spoilers are, of course, ahead...

[Peter Dinklage X-Men villain confirmed?]

Though it might come as little surprise considering the simmering rumour-mongering online, it seems that 'Game of Thrones' star Peter Dinklage is confirmed to play – as suspected – Bolivar Trask, the creator of the Sentinels, the X-Men-hunting robot force.

Though Dinklage has long been linked to the character, both Singer and 20th Century Fox have so far remained tight-lipped on his appointment.

It's expected that the official studio confirmation will come at the Comic-Con event in San Diego later this week.

Also revealed is the role to be played by Aussie actor Josh Helman.

It was thought that he might be playing a young version of Cyclops, but instead he's stepping up as villain Bill Stryker, played to the hilt by Brian Cox in Singer's first X-Men sequel 'X2'.

It's also thought that Singer will be revealing some matters of plot for the complex, time-travel, parallel universe X-Men instalment.

It is set to involve Kitty Pryde, played by Ellen Page, using her powers to send Hugh Jackman's Wolverine back in time to meet the 'First Class' X-Men, but things go awry during her 'time travel trance', which may pave the way for Anna Paquin's Rogue to try and assume her powers.

More will no doubt be unveiled in San Diego...

The film is due on July 18, 2014, and stars Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, Nicholas Hoult, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy and Josh Helman.
