Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson and her husband Greg Wise have adopted a 17-year-old Rwandan orphan whose parents were killed during the country's civil war.
The Love Actually star tried IVF treatment to conceive a brother or sister for her six-year-old daughter Gaia but was unsuccessful, so she and TV actor Greg decided to adopt Tindyebwa Agaba following Emma's charity work in Africa.
The actress is quoted as saying by the New York Post: ''Funnily enough, through finding something else to do with my mothering instincts, other children have come and there is something to offer thema life with an extended family, which I think is preferable to an entirely nuclear family.
''Tindyebwa is doing brilliantly now. He got wonderful 'A' Level (exam) results this summer. He's putting in applications for university. He's going great guns.''
