Sales of Johnny Cash records have rocketed a staggering sevenfold during February, following the success of Hollywood biopic Walk The Line.

The Oscar-nominated film, which opened in the UK last month, is about the life of troubled country singer Cash, and stars Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.

This is very possibly the biggest single sales jump in the legendary singer's 50 year recording history, with HMV reporting sales have leapt a giant 676%, with seventeen albums in their Country Music Top 20 being Cash titles.

In addition to Cash's own work, the Walk The Line soundtrack, which features vocal performances from both Phoenix and Witherspoon, is also an HMV best seller. Walk The Line is nominated in four categories at the 2006 Academy Awards this Sunday, including Best Actor and Best Actress.
