"27 Dresses" in fashion at the UK Box Office

The rom-com-tastic "27 Dresses" has strutted its proverbial stuff down the UK Box Office catwalk and waltzed away with the top spot with a perky £1.7 million opening weekend. "Step Up 2: The Streets"...err...stepped up to the challenge and actually climbed a place to number 2 cementing its place as the UK's fastest grossing Dance film ever (so there). Meanwhile "The Spiderwick Chronicles" has fallen to number 3 under such intense scrutiny from those excitable dancing teens.

Last week's number one then has taken a surprising tumble down the charts to number 4 as "Horton Hears a Who" hears the clamour of audiences leaving the auditorium. This week's other new entry comes in at 5 in the gangly form of Owen Wilson and his "Drillbit Taylor" - the bodyguard vs. the playground comedy took a sloppy £700,000 over the weekend. "Meet the Spartans" has been met with much apathy and abject critical response so it's no surprise that is falls two places to number 6 just ahead of pre-historic romp "10,000 BC" at 7.

After an incredible four weeks both "Vantage Point" and "The Game Plan" have maintained their chart status at numbers 8 and 9 respectively. And "The Orphanage" continues to dig its heels in and remains at number 10 taking a further £300,000 from a limited release.
