William H. Macy has joined the cast of Robert Rodriguez' "Shorts" and will be filling said shorts alongside the likes of Jon Cryer ("Two and a Half Men"), Leslie Mann ("Knocked Up") and James Spader ("Sex, Lies and Videotape") in the family comedy adventure. Rodriguez, being the work horse that he is, not only directs but will produce through his Troublemaker Studios from his own script as well as taking up DOP and editing duties and making the sandwiches for the crew (maybe).
"Shorts" sounds like a delightfully weird comedy set in a suburb where all the houses look the same and everyone works for the Black Box Corporation - the manufacturer of the ultimate communication and do-it-all gadget. So far, so David Lynch via "The Twilight Zone" but then things get really weird when an 11-year old boy is hit in the head with a rainbow-coloured rock. The rock grants wishes to anyone who holds it ensuring for some ridiculous set-ups in this cookie-cutter town.
Filming is currently underway in Austin, Texas for an early 2009 release.
