Danny Boyle has no problem with critics of his new film Slumdog Millionaire.
The film, which has been nominated for 10 Oscars, has been hit by a series of unfavourable news reports including protests over the film’s depiction of slum life in India and accusations that the child actors weren’t paid fairly for their work.
However, some believe that the reports are deliberate smear tactics in a bid to undermine the hit film’s chance at the Academy Awards.
But Boyle insists he has no problem with the protests. “Oh no, I'm not joining in any conspiracy theories! No way, no. You have the privilege of making a film, people can say what they like about it.
"You have some films that people really like, and some films that people really don't, and that's part of the responsibility of the job, that you get the chance to make it and people get the chance to say what they like about it, and I'm happy for them to do that."
Boyle also added that he had set up funds for two of the child actors in the film until they are 18 - “certainly long after any fuss has died down", he revealed.
