Well, who'd have thought it? "Quantum of Solace" has finally been booted off the top spot but the big surprise comes when you consider who exactly has done the booting! Many were awaiting the heavy hitters of "The Day The Earth Stood Still" or "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" to put paid to 007's reign of terror but the film to have slain the secret agent is none other than "Four Christmases". The critically derided festive film, starring Vince Vaughan and Reese Witherspoon, took an impressive £2.2 million to knock "Quantum of Solace" down one place to 2 this week. Another new entry at 3 comes in the form of Universal's Oscar contender "Changeling". Starring Angelina Jolie, and directed by Clint Eastwood, "Changeling" cashed in on its critical kudos to register a £1.2 million opening weekend.
Dropping down two places to 4 this week then is Ridley Scott's "Body of Lies" with the Spy Game coming under increased scrutiny due to Eastwood's remarkable film. Likewise the gross out shenanigans of "My Best Friend's Girl" suffers a knock this week and falls to 5 yet still manages to outdo the Wildcats of "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" at 6. The last of this week's new releases comes in the highly satirical shape of "What Just Happened?". The Robert De Niro-starring Hollywood parody took a rather humbling £178,000 to land at number 7.
The also-rans this week then would be "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" at 8 with the two amateur Adult filmmakers staying just out in front of those ravenous zombies of "Quarantine" at 9. And last, but by no means least, Mark Wahlberg brings up the rear with "Max Payne" down at 10.
