Sir Michael Caine's classic movies are among the first to be given a HD makeover for the TV screen.
Sky Movies are celebrating the movie legend's 75th birthday by restoring evergreen films like Zulu and The Italian Job in HD. They will be screened later this month.
Caine welcomed the "fantastic" news, saying, "I love HD ... of course, it's very unforgiving, especially on young beautiful ladies, but thank God I'm old, I don't care."
The director of Sky Movies, Ian Lewis, said, "Watching a classic title remastered in HD is like viewing a restored painting."
It's expected that the major film companies will now work their way through their libraries, slowly restoring classic films to meet the demands of modern technology. HD is said to offer picture quality four times better than standard DVD.
