The movie about astronaut Neil Armstrong will be based on the book by NASA historian James R Hansen. The plot is believed to focus on the personal tragedy which fuelled his ambition to reach the moon, and on the controversy over whether he or Buzz Aldrin was to be the first man to walk on the moon.
Nicole Perlman, who will write the script, says that Armstrong's personal struggles will be at the heart of the story. 'The closer he got to the moon, the further away he became from his family," she explained.
"He had a family tragedy before Apollo that turned him into this driven astronaut, and he became such a perfect hero that while Buzz Aldrin was announced to be the first man on the moon, NASA reversed its decision because Neil was regarded as more heroic."
Details of the film are still thin on the ground, but it's a safe bet to say that the finished product will not resemble Capricorn One. Elliott Gould's 1978 production dealt with the widespread rumours (still around today) that the moon landings were faked and took place in a movie studio.
Not sure NASA would back a sequel to that one.
