Berlin's Football Film Festival (yes there is such a thing) will open on Friday with a screening of a movie about one of the game's greatest ever players, Diego Maradona.

The Argentinean star who played in four World Cup finals is the focus of Maradona - La mano de dios [Maradona - the Hand of God].

The title refers to the goal Maradona scored to beat England in the quarter-finals of Mexico 86 when he palmed the ball into the net over goalkeeper Peter Shilton.

The film focuses on Maradona's private life which has included such tabloid-friendly material as shooting at the media, drug-addiction and obesity, (much of which will not have featured in the autobiography pictured).

The biopic was made by Italian director Marco Risi who will no doubt have heard many stories about the FIFA Player Of The 20th Century from his days playing for Napoli in the 1980s.

The fifth international Football Film Festival runs in the German capital between 4-7 April with over 40 international films, documentaries and short films being shown.
