Bob Hoskins risked serious injury doing his own stunts after discovering his stunt double was a foot taller than him.

The actor was shocked when he saw his stunt double on the set of BBC drama The Street.

Hoskins, who is 5ft 6in tall, revealed, "I wound up doing my own stunts because, when the stuntman turned up, he was 6ft 6in."

But the 66-year-old had no problems filming the stunt fight scenes himself. He waded into the filmed brawl with no problems.

"I know how to act - it's getting bashed up that's not such fun," he added.

The Street will be aired on BBC One on July 13.
