Actor Simon Pegg said he had to re-write the screenplay of his new comedy Run, Fat Boy, Run to suit the British sense of humour.
The film premiered in London's Leicester Square on Monday night (September 3), and the Hot Fuzz star explained that the film was originally set in America by screenwriter Michael Ian Black, but needed some adjustments.
Shot in London, it centres on a loser called Dennis (Pegg) who is desperate to win back the love of his life (Thandie Newton) five years after he left her standing at the altar, eight months’ pregnant. Competing against her athletic new boyfriend (Hank Azaria) for her affections, Dennis (pic) attempts to prove his commitment by running the London Marathon in her honour.
Pegg explained: "I rewrote the whole thing for the British audience because it was set in America. I think there was a slight problem with one little swear word that they wouldn’t accept and we had to change but, otherwise, it’s basically the same story.
He added: "The word in question was ’Cock’. They wanted ‘Prat’. The Americans hate ‘Cock’ and you can quote me on that.”
As for upcoming projects, Pegg stayed tight-lipped, just saying: "Nick [Frost, his Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz collaborator] and I are writing something together and Edgar (Wright) and I are writing something together. There’s the third film in our little trilogy to make."
