With the new Transformers film set to top the summer box office, another movie about an iconic kid's toy is in the making and Mark Wahlberg is being courted by Hollywood producers to star.

The Departed star is in talks to play Duke - the lead in G.I Joe which will be based on the characters in Hasbro's long running all-American toy army series.

"You know what, I'll do whatever Lorenzo (GI Joe producer di Bonaventura) wants me to do; it really depends on the script, obviously, but it's a cool idea”, Wahlberg told IESB. "He says it's going to be kick ass, so yeah. But he's already putting that out there, so who knows. He knows how to get me to say 'yes.'"

The GI Joe brand is mostly popular in the US where it has been a top children's seller since the '70s, but in the mid '80s it was imported to the UK under the name of Action Force - marketed as mini Action Men.
