Righteous Kill stars Robert Di Niro and Al Pacino are suing the makers of the film over a three second close up of a watch.
The shot of Pacino wearing a Tutima timepiece in last year's drama sparked a legal battle between the film's production company and the watch firm after Millennium Films accused Tutima of failing to pay a $50,000 (£35,000) fee for the close-up shot of their watch.
Now the film's two veteran stars have become involved, filing a suit against the film's distribution company Overture Films for agreeing the deal with Tutima without their authorisation.
The pair say they would not have given their permission to such a deal.
The papers state: "Had their permission been sought, both De Niro and Pacino would have flatly refused to consent to the use of their names, voices and/or likenesses in connection with the tie-in."
The actors are seeking unspecified damages, with both Overture and Tutima USA Inc. named as defendants.
In response to the lawsuit, Overture Films issued a statement that read: "We are surprised by this action as Overture Films has not received any communication on this matter for months from Pacino, De Niro or their representatives. We take lawsuits very seriously and our legal team is addressing the issue."
