Sharon Stone has issued a further apology after blaming China's earthquake on bad karma.

The actress sparked controversy after she suggested the recent devastation, which has killed up to 60,000 people, was the result of bad karma due to China's treatment of Tibet.

She quickly apologised, saying, "Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people."

However, following Shanghai International Film Festival's refusal to invite the Basic Instinct actress this year (she attended the previous year) she has released another statement: "There have been numerous reports about what I said in Cannes.

"I would like to set the record straight about what I feel in my heart and end all of the misunderstandings. Yes, I misspoke. I could not be more regretful of that mistake. It was unintentional. I apologise, those words were never meant to be hurtful to anyone, they were an accident of my distraction and a product of news sensationalism. I am deeply saddened by the pain that this whole situation has caused the victims of the devastating earthquake in China."
