Carrey does Christmas Carol

Jim Carrey is to star in a remake of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

The famous book - which must have been adapted for TV and film more than any other - is being reworked for the screen by director Robert Zemeckis. The film will be a motion capture animation, in the style of Polar Express and upcoming Beowulf, and will also star Bob Hoskins.

Hoskins told Empire: "He [Zemeckis] is going to make A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey.

"He wants me to play Mr Fezziwig. He's doing it in that way he did Polar Express. You stand in a box with that funny suit on and it reads everything you do...

"Am I going to do it? Of course I am!"

Hoskins has previously worked with Zemeckis on '80s favourite Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but this will be the first time he's shared a set with Carrey. It's not known when shooting on A Christmas Carol starts, or even which studio is funding it, although Zemeckis's previous two films using this technique have been through Warner Bros.
