It was perhaps the worst kept secret in the Biz but Warner Bros. have confirmed (for what it's worth) that they will re-release Christopher Nolan's stunning "Dark Knight" for a limited theatrical run on January 23, 2009. "The Dark Knight" will appear in a healthy spread of normal and IMAX cinemas. The studio's strategy appears two-fold; firstly, they want to push "The Dark Knight" to the $1 billion mark in the Global Box Office and secondly, by re-releasing 2008's biggest blockbuster in January then Warner Bros. can ensure that their titan remains at the forefront of the Academy's minds.

Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution, in a press release yesterday, announced; "'The Dark Knight' is a crowning achievement in every sense of the word. We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the big screen as it was meant to be seen."
