Cloverfield roars to the top

Cloverfield has stomped all over the opposition at UK cinemas, roaring to the top of the box office charts.

Unlike the film's opening in the US, there have been no motion sickness reports as a result of the movie's hand held camera work.

The Godzilla-like monster movie took £3.49m in its opening weekend, more than double Sweeney Todd in second.

Johnny Depp's slashing barber performed well in its second week, despite reports of audiences walking out when they discovered it was a musical. It took another £1.71m.

Over Her Dead body, featuring Eva Longoria-Parker in her first starring role, was third, while Christina Ricci and James McAvoy's modern-day fairytale, Penelope, opened in fourth.

The Coen brothers' magnificent No Country For Old Men held on in fifth, taking £712,000 in its third week.
