Renée goes West

Renée Zellweger is to star in a western film called Appaloosa.

The Miss Potter star will co-star with Lord Of The Rings' Viggo Mortensen and The Hours Oscar nominee Ed Harris in the story of two friends who are hired to protect a lawless town suffering at the hands of a renegade rancher. Their policing is then disrupted by the arrival of a beautiful, mysterious widow.

As well as acting in it, Harris will also direct from a script he co-wrote with first-time writer Robert Knott It'll be only Harris's second go at directing following the 2000 biopic on Pollock, which gave Marcia Gay Harden an Oscar for Best Actress and how Ed got his nomination.

Filming begins on October 1 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
