Cate Blanchett wins Dylan's blessing

Bob Dylan has given biopic I'm Not There his blessing, after actress Cate Blanchett's performance won him over.

The music legend is played by six actors in the film, each representing different periods of his career, including Christian Bale, Richard Gere and Heath Ledger (pic with co-star Charlotte Gainsbourg).

But it was actress Cate Blanchett's portrayal of him that pleased Dylan the most - despite the Oscar winner not being the most obvious Dylan-lookalike!

Director Todd Haynes said: "There have been documentaries (about Dylan) but this is the first dramatic film about his life which he has ever given his consent to. He has a tremendous sense of humour about the way he has been characterised. I think that's a really healthy attitude and he saw something similar in this film.

Blanchett's portrayal aside, Haynes believes the film's open ending also pleased Dylan, added: "I do think it was because of this open structure, something that we keep expanding through the years. And because of that Bob thought: 'OK, this may be the one thing I'll say OK to.'"
