Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane in the '80s Superman films, has spoken approvingly about the new Richard Donner cut of Superman II.

Following a screening of the new cut, Kidder told Home Media Retailing Magazine: "I think this is such a better version of Superman II. ... It's night and day."

The actress told a panel discussion at the Directors Guild that after Donner was sacked by the film's producers and replaced by Richard Lester, most of the script was rewritten and reshot, which she and Christopher Reeve "were really p*ssed off" about.

Kidder said that the late Reeve was "a little more political about it", while she told a magazine "the producers were beneath contempt". That remark didn't go unnoticed Kidder feels as she, "ended up having 12 lines in Superman III".

The new cut of Superman 2 is being released on DVD later this month.
