Steven Spielberg and Will Smith are reportedly in discussions to collaborate on a Hollywood remake of Korean thriller Oldboy.

The Hollywood heavyweight's are keen to work on the remake of the 2003 classic - with Spielberg's film company Dreamworks close to securing the rights, reports Variety.

The Jurassic Park director has always wished to work with Smith on a movie, and sees Oldboy as a perfect opportunity for the pair.

The original movie told the tale of a man's quest for revenge after he was imprisoned in a tiny room without explanation for 15 years. After being released he is determined to find out who was behind it. As well as the staggering end twist (which some may feel a bit edgy for Hollywood mainstream cinemas), the film attracted controversy over a scene where the hero eats a live squid. We doubt this will feature in the Spielberg /Smith version!

Nicolas Cage was once mooted to star as the jailed hero in an earlier planned remake.
