In perhaps one of the most surprising / fascinating news stories of the week, director and Cinema's 'Hall of Famer' Steven Spielberg, alongside "I Am Legend" star Will Smith, have opened discussions to work together on a remake of Chan Wook-park's "Oldboy" - Extreme Asia's most prized asset. According to Variety, DreamWorks have won the bidding war for the remake rights with Universal tied in to the global distribution deal.

Chan Wook's "Oldboy" centred on a 'troubled' man who gets kidnapped and detained in a cell for 15 years without warrant. Suddenly, he's released and given money, a cell phone and clothes and is set on a path to discover who destroyed his life so he can mete out a violent revenge.

Smith will take on the role of the kidnapped man if all the pieces of this deal fall into place. Spielberg is looking for a writer to begin the development process with David Koepp top of his wanted list.
