Billy Connolly is to star alongside Amanda Peet and rapper Xzibit in the new X-Files movie.
According to reports, the Scottish comedian will be taking his place alongside Mulder and Scully in a stand-alone feature to be directed by original series creator Chris Carter.
Sci-fi junkies have been starved of their X-Files hit since the series finished over five years ago, and the new film, due for release in July 2008, is expected to be one of next summer's biggest blockbusters.
Details of the stars' roles have not been confirmed, but it is believed that Peet and Xzibit will play FBI agents working with Mulder and Scully. We will have to wait and see whether Billy is playing one of the aliens!
Pimp My Ride host Xzibit has been freed up for his role after filming of Oliver Stone's Pinkville, in which he was to star alongside Bruce Willis and Woody Harrelson, was put on hold due to the ongoing writers strike.
Production of the new movie begins this month, with details of the plot remaining a closely guarded secret.
