David Zucker, tireless producer of spoof movies, is sending up superhero flicks in the ingeniously titled Superhero Movie
The film stars US TV actor Drake Bell as Dragonfly, a character whose story is very close to that of Spider-Man's.
"It's predominantly Spider-Man, but we satirise Batman Begins, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Superman, everything," Zucker says. "It's a spoof of the whole superhero genre, like we did with the Scary Movies, but this one probably has more of a unified plot, like the Naked Guns had."
Regina Hall will appear, sending up Halle Berry's peroxide Storm character from X-Men while Zucker favourite Leslie Nielsen, surely the king of the spoof movie, plays Dragonfly's Uncle Ben-style relative.
Christopher McDonald appears as the villain Hourglass. "He's dying of some rare disease, and he invents a machine where he can continue to live, as long as he kills a lot of people," Zucker says. "The only one who can stop him is Dragonfly."
A UK release date for the film has not yet been scheduled but it should closely follow the US release at the end of March.
