Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright are to begin writing the third part in what they call their "three flavour Cornetto trilogy" of spoofs of their favourite movie genres.
Following successful take-offs of zombie flicks (Shaun of the Dead) and cop movies (Hot Fuzz), the duo are to have a go at the sci-fi apocalypse epic with The World's End.
As in previous films and TV show Spaced, Pegg will star in the project, with Wright on duty behind the camera. They also promise that a Cornetto will feature at some point, following the appearance of their favourite ice-cream in the first two parts of the trilogy.
The film is part of a new deal Wright has signed with Working Title to make two new movies for Universal. Before work begins on The World's End he will pen and direct Baby Driver, described as a crazy take on the action/crime genres to be set in America.
Meanwhile, Pegg will star as Scotty in the forthcoming new Star trek film as his assault on Hollywood continues apace. Filming of the eleventh entry in the Star Trek series finished last month, but is not expected to hit screens until May next year.
