Ving Rhames ("Pulp Fiction") and Rosamund Pike ("Doom") have joined Bruce Willis in the new sci–fi property "The Surrogates" for Walt Disney Pictures. Jonathan Mostow ("Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines") is directing the film based on the Top Shelf Comix graphic novel by Robert Venditti and artist Brett Weldele. Mostow's writing team behind "Terminator 3", Michael Ferris and John Brancato, will reteam with the helmer to adapt the story. "The Surrogates" will be a murder mystery of sorts set in the future where humans live risk–free lives through robot surrogates that are eternally young and perfect–looking versions of themselves. Willis' detective, via his own robot facade, must piece together the clues of a 'Surrogate murder' – i.e. one person's virtual death at the hands of another. Rhames will play a charismatic cult figure that disdains the use of surrogates and tries to lead an uprising against this virtual living. Pike meanwhile will play Willis' wife. Shooting is scheduled to start on April 28 in Boston for a November 20, 2009 release.
