Is Family Guy heading to the big screen?

Cult TV show Family Guy looks set to be the latest animated series to get the big screen treatment.

The show's creator Seth MacFarlane recently signed a $100 million deal with 20th Century Fox. He will be kept busy though, as it means he will keep making Family Guy episodes until at least 2012, as well as overseeing new shows of American Dad and new Family Guy spinoff The Cleveland Show.

And crucially for Family Guy fans, it also means that the long rumoured movie is very much in the works.

Unsurprisingly, MacFarlane was pleased with the deal. He said: "Signing a long contract is something I can feel good and relaxed about because I know they have tight purse strings, but they certainly give you a lot of creative freedom.”

Ironically, 20th Century Fox cancelled the show early on but changed their minds after the success of the DVD box sets.
