Wild at heart? I'll say

Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive director David Lynch has made some outlandish films in his career, but his latest, Inland Empire, goes further still, leaving even the movie's stars somewhat confused.

Laura Dern, who also worked with Lynch on Blue Velvet and Wild At Heart, told The Australian: "Each day was a different direction, each day was a different idea, because we didn't have a script we were following.

"The truth is, I didn't know who I was playing – and I still don't know. I'm looking forward to seeing the film to find out more."

For his part, Lynch refused to be drawn, insisting the film spoke for itself.

Just not, alas, in a language that we understand.
