Steve Carell has admitted he is desperate to return to the Anchorman universe after hearing there are plans of a sequel to the 2004 comedy.

Will Ferrell recently reported that writer/director Adam McKay was working on a follow up to the cult comedy and Carell couldn't be happier, admitting that he would return to the franchise "in a second".

"I’ve heard some inklings as to what Adam McKay has in mind for a sequel, and it’s really funny. But I couldn’t say anything more than that," he said.

"That is one of the most fun things I ever did. I laughed until I cried, every day on that movie.”

Carrell, who played mentally challenged weatherman Brick Tamland in the movie, admits that he won't be asking for more screen time in the movie. "No way. No, no no, I think Brick Tamland is what he is, in terms of that news team. I think he’s just a member of the team.”

The film revolves around a San Diego news team in the 1970s, led by the womanising Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell).
