Will Smith is desperate to do a follow up to his last man on earth flick I Am Legend.
Those of you who have seen the film will know that a sequel with Smith would be difficult to explain. However, he has fallen back on Hollywood's favourite standby - the prequel.
The film will focus on Dr Robert Neville's last days before the entire world dies.
Smith revealed, "We have a very cool prequel idea, and in essence, it's not the title, but the idea of it is "The Last Stand of Manhattan." It would be the fall of Manhattan, the last American city to fall."
Smith admitted it would've been nice to have used the original ending, which would've made a sequel possible. But all parties felt the movie was better the way it was.
"You know, that (original) ending was more conceptually true to the novel," he told IESB.net, "But it was one of those things when you actually put it up in a theatre, it doesn't work in movie format. It's like, there is a forgiveness that literary audiences will give you that film audiences won't give you. It's the two-hour construct, you're in there, and it needs to climax and finish. And, it just didn't lend itself."
