Screen sirens Scarlett Johannson and Natalie Portman are making their debuts behind the camera in a collection of shorts about New York.
New York, I Love You sees a plethora of Hollywood's finest decamp to the East Coast to film a series of cinematic tributes to the Big Apple. The collection follows in the footsteps of last year's surprise minor hit Paris, je t'aime.
Other directors offering their services to make the Gotham-based vignettes include Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding), Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand), and Fatih Akin (The Edge of Heaven). Rumours that Woody Allen was on board - understandable given the director's love affair with the city - have been denied.
The project's pedigree is helped by having Crash executive producer Marina Grasic attached, and she believes the new non-linear form of movie has found an audience.
"With films like 'Crash' and 'Babel,' the approach to narrative has changed," she said. "People are getting more sophisticated about watching content in shorter forms."
Among the stars already signed up to the picture are Hayden Christensen, Olivia Thirlby, Ethan Hawke, Kevin Bacon, James Caan and Orlando Bloom.
