"Shrek The Third" kicks John McClane's butt

He may be able to knock off baddies with seeming ease but it would appear that John McClane has met his match in a grumpy green ogre, as "Die Hard 4.0" has failed to shift "Shrek The Third" from the top of the UK box office chart!

The fourth instalment of the all-action franchise earned £3.3 million over the weekend (July 6th - 8th) but Shrek's latest adventure took just over £5 million, bringing it's total earnings since it was released at the end of June to £25.6 million, a figure which has already propelled the movie into the Top 50 films of all time here in the UK.

"Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer" slipped down to third while heist adventure "Ocean's 13" is also on the slide as George Clooney and co. fell to fourth. "Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End" finished the weekend in fifth.
