Johnny Depp, so enamoured with his "Pirates of the Caribbean" director, has jumped at the chance to reteam with Gore Verbinski on his latest project. The two will pool their combined blockbusting powers on "Rango", an animated film that Paramount will finance and distribute.

John Logan ("The Aviator") has penned the script from an original idea from Verbinski. Already corralled in to the project are those tech wizards of Industrial Light & Magic. Despite the project still being very much in its infancy, Paramount are so convinced by the IP that they've set a release date of March 2011. So no pressure to deliver then?!

Depp will voice the lead character, a household pet that goes on an adventure to discover its true self. According to the most recent blurb on the film, "Rango" will be Paramount's most ambitious CG project to date.

Verbinski meanwhile will direct "Rango" between adapting the Take-Two video game "BioShock" for Universal.
