Atonement Scoops Best Film Award at BAFTAs

The most glamorous evening in the British film calendar took place in London last night. Stars such as Keira Knightley and James McAvoy were among the award hopefuls in attendance and were nominated for Best Actress and Actor for their work in "Atonement". Though "Atonement" received an impressive 14 BAFTA nominations it took home just two awards last night, one for Production Design and the much-coveted prize for Best Film.

The Best Actress Award went to French actress Marion Cotillard for her portrayal of Edith Piaf in "La Vie En Rose". Best Actor went to the low-key veteran with a talent for picking and choosing award favourites, Daniel Day Lewis for "There Will Be Blood".

The Best Director prize signalled a return to form for the Coen brothers who snatched the award for their joint effort with "No Country for Old Men", which also scored the Award for Best Supporting Actor thanks to Javier Badem. The Best Supporting Actress award went to Tilda Swinton for her role in "Michael Clayton". Another recently released favourite, indie film "Juno" was also singled out as writer Diablo Cody won the award for Original Screenplay.
