Director Matthew Vaughn must have got bitten by the fantasy bug after making last year's Stardust - he's set to helm comic book movie Thor.
It's long been mooted that the God of Thunder's adventures, based on the Marvel comic book, would be adapted for the big screen. And it looks like Layer Cake director Vaughn has been given the task.
He told Empire, "We’re in a holding pattern at the moment. It’s up to Marvel, they have to decide if they want to make the movie and then we take it from there.
"The main role is going to be played by someone totally unknown. It can’t be a star, it’s got to be someone totally unknown.” - which seems tailor made for Trainspotting's Kevin McKidd, who has been heavily tipped to play the super hero.
Elsewhere, Vaughn also explained how he would translate the character's larger than life exploits for a modern day audience. "I think you have to respect that it is comic book and silly to be frank, so you have to combine that with a modern style and hopefully come up with something fresh. I think we can come up with something special," he added.
It's not the first time Vaughn was expected to adapt a comic book book - he was lined up to direct the third X-Men movie but pulled out at the last minute over creative differences.
