Neil Marshall, the horror fiend behind "The Descent" and the forthcoming apocalyptic action-fest "Doomsday", has pencilled in his next project. "Sacrilege" will blend all-out horror with a Wild West sensibility…so a little reminiscent of 1999's "Ravenous" then?
And the comparisons don't end there. Marshall told Variety "it is set during the Gold Rush, a time remembered for incidents like the Donner Party. It is meant to be a pitch-black, gritty, period horror movie."
Although, Marshall has crafted a strong reputation for mining scares out of generic material - his debut, "Dog Soldiers", was both exciting and felt new despite wallowing in the werewolf monster flick territory. Marshall gains further kudos for name dropping John Carpenter and his legendary master class in paranoid terror in "The Thing". Marshall added that "This is 'Unforgiven' by way of H.P. Lovecraft, with that grim, gritty setting and a horror element nobody has seen before".
