The new trailers for Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder are expected to be re-edited following criticism from disability groups.
The war comedy, which is also directed and co-written by Stiller, sees the Zoolander star play fictional action movie hero Tugg Speedman. In a bid to diversify his acting career and win an Oscar, Speedman plays a mentally handicapped child in the film Simple Jack.
Unsurprisingly, disability groups have not been best pleased with the constant use of the word 'retard' in the film and called for a boycott of the movie - claiming the language used constitutes 'hate speech'.
However, following a successful meeting with the film's producers, Dreamworks pictures, it's been suggested that the film's trailers will be drastically recut ahead of its worldwide release later this month.
"It was a very productive meeting," said a spokesperson from Dreamworks Pictures.
Stiller had previously tried to talk down the hate speech row, saying that it was a satirical look at how actors play mentally challenged roles in a bid to win an Oscar.
We're sure the filmmakers aren't too bothered with the criticisms however, what with all the free publicity they have now received.
