Mel Gibson seems to have come through the controversies that surrounded him earlier this year, with news that his latest movie - "Apocalypto", which has all of its dialogue in ancient Mayan - has taken the top spot at the US box office this weekend. The film kept star-studded festive rom com "The Holiday" from debuting at the top of the chart , while acclaimed CGI tale "Happy Feet" fell one place to third.
"Casino Royale" slipped one place to fourth, with new Leonardo DiCaprio thriller "Blood Diamond" debuting in fifth place (on a relatively small release). The only other new film in the chart - teen Xmas tale "Unaccompanied Minors" (aka "Grounded") - debuted at six.
