Harry Potter and the ridiculous rumours

Daniel Radcliffe has rubbished rumours linking Steven Spielberg to the seventh Harry Potter film.

The British actor, who plays the teen wizard, was shocked to hear that the famed director was rumoured to be helming the seventh and last instalment of the blockbusting franchise.

Radcliffe told Heart radio: "I have no idea how that rumour started or where it came from. It's absolute rubbish that Spielberg is directing the final film. It's not true."

Of the sixth film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, he said: "I'm really enjoying it. We're about six months in and we've only got four more to go."

Radcliffe had better get used to the endless rumours on who will direct the series' last film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Pan's Labyrinth's Guillermo del Toro recently stated he would love to be be on board for it.

Other names rumoured include David Yates (who directed previous Potter film Order of Phoenix and is working on Half-Blood Prince) and Alfonso Cuaron, who helmed 2004s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
