Karen Allen was delighted to star in the new Indiana Jones movie because she had waited for years to be asked back.
Allen, who played Marion Ravenwood in 1981's Indiana Jones: Raiders Of The Lost Ark, had heard for years that her character was being written back into the franchise and she was keeping her fingers crossed that the rumours were true.
She told USA Today: "There had been a rumour for many, many years that they were trying to find a script everybody was going to be happy with.
"I would get little bits of information from time to time, usually rumour mill kind of stuff, but I hadn't heard anything for a long time. I had no idea when they finally got a script that my character was back."
Ravenwood plays Ford's love interest in the forthcoming Indiana Jones and The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.
"As the film begins, they haven't seen each other for a long time, and suddenly, they're thrust back together," she said.
"They kind of pick up from where they left off. A few bumpy roads have passed between them since then that they have to work out with each other.
"She was a very wonderfully written character. How can you go wrong when you meet a woman in a bar in Nepal and she's drinking men under the table, yelling at large men in Nepalese and ordering them out of the bar, and when she first sets eyes on Indiana Jones, she socks him in the jaw?"
Indiana Jones and The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull is released on May 22.
