Stephen Daldry is no doubt looking forward to the Oscars where he's up for Best director for The Reader along with it's lead, Kate Winslet for Best Actress (plus the film has a further three nominations).

However, he's also looking further ahead too having taken the reins for a remake of the classic My Fair Lady.

Talking about the Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison version he told the Daily Mail that 'It's all about Cecil Beaton's sets and costumes, isn't it? Which are fantastic - as are the songs, of course."

However, he was less complimentary about the film overall adding, "It's a visual masterpiece - but it needs to be more than that. It's a clunky movie."

Daldrey has secured the writing skills of top fellow Brit talent Emma Thompson for his new vision of the the story of flower girl, Eliza Dootlittle's introduction to high society. Now rumours have emerged that Keira Knightley is his favourite for the part.

Keira's unlikely to have any concerns about the script, Emma already has an Oscar on her mantelpiece (or propping open the loo door perhaps?) for her adaptation of Sense And Sensibility, which starred Winslet.

Keira's currently riding high in the box office results. She scored an impressive 42 in the Forbes bankable stars list, which Will Smith topped.

Largely thanks to the Pirates trilogy, the 23-year-old came higher than Kate Winslet too (Jennifer Aniston was the top-placed female thanks to her movie The Break Up).

Keira will next be seen in Last Night, a star-crossed lovers romantic drama. It's the directorial debut of Massy Tadjedin who wrote the screenplay for The Jacket in which Keira starred opposite Adrien Brody
