The team behind the forthcoming comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall are to bring the Muppets back to the big screen.
At first glance, it seems a strange decision given that Forgetting Sarah Marshall is an adult-themed comedy about a TV show composer (Jason Segel) who is struggling to cope with life after his actress girlfriend dumps him for a rock star (Russell Brand. Seriously). It is made by the same production team behind Superbad and Knocked Up, and is directed by Nick Stoller, who co-wrote the film with Segel.
However, the pair showcase their love for Kermit and co in the film. One of the main sequences is a Dracula musical performed by puppets, which was created by the Henson team. Segal's character even sings the Muppet theme tune during the film.
It seems the Henson team enjoyed the collaboration so much they agreed to green light a new Muppets movie after a pitch by Segel. The pair will write the film while Stoller will direct again.
While we don't expect an adult Muppets comedy, let's hope the pair can kickstart the franchise – the puppets' recent adventures could hardly be described as classics.
