Thor gets a director

Matthew Vaughan (Layer Cake) is the man given the honour of directing the next Marvel comic book adaptation, Thor.

Marvel comic's famous Nordic deity turned mortal is in pre-production with David Goyer (Blade, Batman Begins) tackling the script.

If the movie follows the same path as Stan Lee's famous comics (pictured) the plot will revolve around partially disabled medical student Dr. Donald Blake who unwittingly discovers his alter ego is the hammer wielding (called Mjolnir) Norse warrior. Thor's a member of superhero gang the Avengers and his nemesis is step-brother Loki, god of Mischief no less.

No actors have been linked to the project due 2009, but surely anyone blonde with muscles stands a good chance. Daniel Craig?
