Meirelles heads home for "Blindness"

After success overseas with "The Constant Gardener" Fernando Meirelles ("City of God") is heading back to his native Brazil to take charge of new project "Blindness". Based on the 1995 novel by Portuguese Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago, the film will be a thriller about an epidemic of blindness that tears through an unnamed city and pushes society to the brink of collapse.

Writer/director/actor Don McKellar has adapted Saramago's book and will also play a supporting role in the movie, which is set to film next summer in Sao Paolo and Toronto.
