Who needs James Bond? Not Pierce Brosnan. The sequel to the surprise 1999 hit The Thomas Crown Affair is set to begin filming.

Brosnan, who has not had a box office smash since retiring from the famous superspy role, is once again taking acting and producing duties in the sequel.

The original film, itself a remake of a Steve McQueen classic, saw Brosnan play suave billionaire Thomas Crown who robs an art gallery robbery for the thrill of it. Rene Russo played the FBI agent who fell in love with him.

The Thomas Crown Affair 2, which will be directed by Paul Verhoeven, is rumoured to be set entirely in Europe and Middle East after Crown finds himself in the middle of an ancient feud.

Russo is not reprising her role - instead Brosnan's love interest has been described as an exotic character.

So Brosnan will be filming in exotic countries with beautiful woman. Good to see he's expanding his repertoire following Bond!
