Neve Campbell says she was once stalked by William Shakespeare.
In a tale of life replicating art, the Hollywood actress told how she lived in constant terror after starring in the Scream trilogy.
Several obsessive fans were sending strange letters and following her when she left the house. One stalker was convinced he was the reincarnation of the great English playwright and bombarded her with love poetry.
Neve said: "Just after the Scream films the attention was probably at its peak, and it was very difficult to deal with. I had to cope with a lot of stalkers and a lot of strange letters."
Neve - who is about to star in political comedy Resurrection Blues at London's Old Vic theatre - told the Sunday Telegraph: "Luckily, it's not like that now. The people who are watching the sort of stuff I do now are older and more mature - they have jobs, lives and families.
"I don't get the obsessive stuff anymore."
