"Star Trek" release pushed back to May, 2009

Phasers set to stun! In perhaps the most damning piece of news to come out of Hollywood this year, Paramount have announced that J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" will be pushed back from its original Boxing Day 2008 release date to May 8, 2009.

If, like me, you happen to consider yourself a 'trekkie' then this is quite simply a low blow after the excitement generated by the first teaser trailer released two weeks ago. But, in Abrams we trust and a little more time to apply the spit and polish on the U.S.S. Enterprise can be no bad thing - roll on summer 2009!

Incidentally, it looks like DreamWorks have been getting in on the act as well with an array of release updates. First up, Ben Stiller's latest comedy Tropic Thunder has been pushed back a month from July 11 to August 15, 2008.

DreamWorks also announced that director Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island" will make its bow October 2, 2009. The Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer will be a period noir of sorts featuring DiCaprio's detective tracking down an escaped mental patient on the titular isle.

Meanwhile the fantasy-drama "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", curiously, and rather intriguingly, directed by David Fincher will now debut December 19, 2008 rather than its scheduled release of November.
