Martin Scorsese is to direct a biopic of Frank Sinatra, according to the late singer's daughter.
Tina Sinatra, the youngest child from Ol' Blue Eyes' first marriage, has made something of a career from her late father's work, producing a 1992 TV film called simply Sinatra, as well as the well-received remake of The Manchurian Candidate (Frank starred in the original).
Controversy is bound to revolve around the singer's well-publicised Mafia links. While Tina insists her father "never drove the getaway car", it's long been alleged that Sinatra had personal and professional connections to many notorious gangsters. A character in The Godfather was reputedly based on him.
Tina spoke of her "implicit trust" of Scorsese, but said the film would be "dismissing scurrilous rumours that Sinatra was a stooge for the Mafia."
Scorsese, who was once planning a biopic of Sinatra's old Rat Pack cohort Dean Martin, has recently been immersed in documentaries on music legends such as The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Bob Marley.
He hasn't been confirmed for this project yet, but after all those factual films, maybe he's ready for, what some might consider, a bit more fiction.
