As if Wall Street doesn't have enough problems at the moment - notorious stockbroker Gordon Gekko could be heading back to the big screen.

The iconic screen villain was famed for sayings such as "Greed is good" - earning Michael Douglas a Best Actor Oscar in 1988. And seeing as a sequel to Oliver Stone's look at immoral traders couldn't be more timely the film is being fast tracked by 20th Century Fox.

The story this time around will centre on Gekko as he leaves prison and re-emerges into a much different financial world, reports Variety. Charlie Sheen's Bud Fox character will not feature in the sequel.

Douglas has not officially signed onto the project, but will make a decision based on the script by Things We Lost in the Fire's Allan Loeb. The writer, who is also a licensed stockbroker, also wrote this year's casino thriller 21.
